Yesterday I Had 7, Today I Have 12!

Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on August 16, 2008 | Category: Goats, Saturday Psalm & Praise

Yesterday morning when I went to do the chores I had seven goats, two bucks and five does, and at this exact moment I have twelve goats, six bucks and six does. Let me tell you life at the Dixon’s is never dull nor life on a farm. If you want to lead an excited, well worked, satisfying life get a few farm animals. If not, fine, be boring. Ha!

You know the goat I thought was going to kid back February? Well she never did end up kidding. It has been a wild-ride this year trying to guess which goat was pregnant or not.  We’ve had a few mishaps with the bucks getting out of their pen, but thankfully we took care of that problem and they haven’t been out since!

Yesterday afternoon Eric went down to the barn to see what the dog was barking at and found two does in the chicken stall with three kids! This was completely unexpected. We knew that one of the does was going to kid any day (she looked like a cow), but NOT these two! Emane had two kids, a buckling and a doeling, and Belladonna had one buckling. Emane is being a wonderful Momma. Letting the kids nurse and cleaning them off, but Bella is being a pain. She won’t let her buckling nurse. She’ll lick him but she won’t let him nurse so we have to put her on the milkstand to let him nurse. I got three hours and forty-five minutes of sleep last night (er – this morning), and just as I was finishing up the chores today the goat we knew was going to kid decided to. I was afraid she wasn’t going to be able to push the kid out, but she did fine. She had two kids, but unfortunately they were both bucklings and we’d rather have does!

Right now the newest Bucklings don’t have names, but Emane’s kids are Rawhide and Flopsy and Bella’s buck is Broken Arrow. Yes, I named them myself. Here they are…

Saturday Psalm & Praise

It has been a very crazy ordeal and I hope nothing will go wrong in the future. Today I’m praising and thanking God for his protection in all of this and the safety of the kids and the Mommas. I am praising God for the strength He gave me and Mother Dear this morning after only so short a rest to be able to go take care of the goats. I’m praising God because I know He has me in the palm of His hand and everything happens for His glory. I’m praising God for having my computer back and my work caught up. I’m praising God for the trails He puts me through to make me draw nigh to Him. I’m praising God because He loves me and will deliver me in my time of trouble.

Psalm 93:13-15

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him

Blessings!

Oh so cute! I have 11 pygmy goats and LOVE the babies! It can be crazy sometimes, though, for us, too. We had two sets of surprise twins once… we had no idea the two does were pregnant! And we had a bunch of sheep that we bred once… talk about crazy!

Happy birthday to those cute little guys (and gals)!

LOL about trying to figure out who is prego or not. I walk around our local Wal-mart trying to figure out the same thing! hehe But it’s better to just not ask if someone’s expecting, no matter how obvious it appears to be!

Hello! Just found your site! I love goats! Those babies are TO CUTE! I really enjoy the farm life and yes it is never boring. Only you should hear my Grandma she’ll say YOU HAVE 7 GOATS?! I say yes and 5 to be pregnant soon. She says FIVE! yeah. She thinks it would be a lot of work and a lot of feed purchased but I buy the feed and enjoy the work. I am working on bettering my Saanens. I am hoping that in 3 breedings I will have a very milky doe like a gallon and a half. I also am breeding for bigger does. My 6 month baby is already the size of momma. Well I guess I better stop there I could just talk all day about goats. HAPPY FARMING!
