So Sweet & Simple
Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on May 28, 2008 | Category: Portfolio, The Scriptures
I find that I absolutely love taking photographs, but even moreso when they look like a professional shot them. I used to want to pursue photography, but when I found out how much the equipment was, I picked by jaw up off the floor and looked into something else. However, it may be something I do actually pursue in the future. I have a lot more resources within my grasp now then I did when I was 12.
I needed to take a few photos for a banner for one of the columns I write on Growing In Grace Magazine. I asked Lady Rachel if she’d be my photo-subject. She agreed. I had her put on my Pride & Prejudice gown on along with her prairie bonnet (both made by BrielleCostumes), which gave the photos a very sweet and simple look.

I took a TON of photos, but I thought I’d share this one with you. There were so many really good ones to choose from but this one was one of my favourite.
Then I decided to play around with it on photoshop. There are so many things to do on photoshop, including being able to change the way the photo looks in regards to being painted or photocopied or colour penciled. They are a ton of different techniques, but here are some of the different one I used on the above photo.

Pretty niffty, huh? I took and made quite a few photo graphics for the upcoming GGM issue, which I hope you’ll take a peak at when it’s published. I am really starting to enjoying this whole camera/photoshop union.
At the end of all my fiddling this is what I came up with, which you may find the code on my sidebar (left) if you want to put it on your blog.

I couldn’t fit the whole chapter or the parts of the chapter I really enjoyed on there, but it was very good and so deep, yet so simply spoken. I simply must share with you.
Psalm 37: 2-11
2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
10For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.Read entire chapter: Psalm 37!
Blessings!

Hi,
wow, those are good, I like the sketchy one, the best:)
Have you ever tried muting the colors(you’d think that was fun, makes it look like and old photograph), i’m an ametuer photographer and I really like getting that almost black and white look.

Lady Rachel makes a great model:)

That is so beautiful Jocelyn! I absolutely love it! The colours, lighting and centering – great!
(OK I’m no photographer either but I do love taking pictures and I know a little!)
The tricks on Photoshop look great too!

Oh those are SO pretty!!!! I love that bonnet, very P&P like.
And your right, there really is so much more to work with out there now from just a year or two ago. Especially in the field of filmmaking and digital colouring, which I might pursue.
Very pretty. I think if you ever changed your blog colour, one of those pictures would make a lovely header.

You’re right, that is pretty. I’ve been working on my photography too, and I always love it when a picture comes out perfectly. I haven’t tried to edit mine on the computer though. I guess I should try because we have about four or five programs for photos on here. I like what you did with yours; and the scripture matches the picture beautifully.

I love your new button; it makes me think of the first few paragraphs in your book. ;) I’ve always liked photography too, but I’ve never had a good camera to work with…and I don’t have any graphics programs, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy my friends’ pictures! :) I have a couple friends who are into photography, and one who is going into it professionally.
I hope you enjoy Memorial Day! Do you take school off, or do you just ignore these little holidays? lol…every homeschooler is different.
Blessings,
Sylvia

How did you know I was just thinking about Psalm 37 yesterday?
That picture is fabulous, dear! Check eBay for good cameras. Often there are some good deals. Personally, I’d get a laptop instead. With photoshop on it. ;-) I loooooove photo manipulation.
Oh, and about your poll of the week. Yes, I’m going to come to your blog (because I’m on your automatic update list) and say: “Jocelyn is a stuck up, mis-guided, opinionated little girl.” No! I’m going to say you’re awesome. Fishing for compliments…? (Just teasing! Just teasing!)
Love ya!

I really like taking pictures, too, but I don’t have even a half-way decent camera… I’m saving up to buy one, but they are so expensive!
You have a great day! In Christ, EricaJoy

I love the photos, they all were very pretty!!
I always have to go through my pictures on the computer to get rid of some, so I have room for more. Because I love to photograph all the time! :o)
By the way today I’m going to show the finished frog purse. :)
Have a wonderful day!
Love Tessa
p.s. I’m glad that my comment was encouraging. :o)

Yeah, I knew what your reason was. ;-)
Oh! I just saw your “search the 1828 dictionary” thing on your sidebar. That is so cool. We have a reprint of an 1828 dictionary, and I adore reading it!
What kind of fabric is the sleeves of your dress in that picture? Looks almost like a knit from here.

Great shot, Miss J. It’s very lovely. For the effects, I like the 2nd and the 4th.
Psalm 37 is probably one of my favorite. Thanks for sharing!

Love the photo! I like 3rd and last ones of the ones you messed with. I love photography too. My cameras not the greatest for the pictures I like to take though. I like taking close-ups of things. Plants and bugs mostly. :P

Beautiful! Photography is a wonderful skill! (one that I don’t really have. :( :) )
Your giving up LOTR????!!!???!!! Wow! I did a huge double take! Where have I been?!?
I’m really glad you’re willing to sacrifice earthly pleasures to become more like our Lord. (Matt 18:8) Especially things you’ve really enjoyed.
I would caution you to be careful not to make major decisions off of one article though. Especially when the article writer can’t get their facts organized or talk in a straight line.
I would also reminded you that even the bible mentions whitchcraft, so it’s obviously not a sin to read about it. It becomes a sin when we are purposefully exposing ourselves to something that tempts us. Some people can be greatly helped by a title while that same title is a huge stumbling block to someone else. Everyone has to draw that line for themselves.
I’m not trying to talk you out of your decision. It sounds as though you needed to cut back on it anyway.
Again, lovely picture work. I sure like the way you made them look as if they were painted. I love painting! Can we do painting for a FF sometime?
I’m rambling. I’d better go to bed before I shame the whole homeschooling community with my comepletely unuderstandable sentences! LOL

That’s quite lovely! I especially like the second and third variations. Although I do not intend to pursue photography, I find it quite fun with simple equipment.
By the by, I answered your questions.

Hey! Sorry its been so long since I’ve checked your blog, but the past few months I’ve been so busy with school and church that I only have time to check a few of my friends blogs! But now that school is over, I will have more time! :)
That pic was SOOOOO pretty!!!! I am gonna post it on my blog. I love her dress too!
Well, I must be going!

Those are gorgeous Jocelyn! I am really excited that you are interested in photography, I didnt’ know that before! Although, with the amount of pictures you guys take, I shouldn’t be surprised! :)
I am really excited because now I have photoshop elements, and a laptop. Also, as a graduation present from some family, I am getting a new camera, which I am really excited about! I don’t know all about it yet, but I am pretty sure that it is better than the one that I have!
Have a very bright, very cheerful day!

Wait a minute…
This blog is using the “Springtime 1.0″ theme by ragnhild, isn’t it?
I am using that theme as a base for the template on my Mom’s new blog. Paulie is hosting it for us. You would probably not even recognize it now.
