Saturday Psalm and Praise: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on May 17, 2008 | Category: Ponder Me This, Saturday Psalm & Praise, The Scriptures

I’ve been trying to do some things lately that will draw me closer to the Lord. Little things that I, as a seventeen-year-old, should already have down by now. Things like reading my Bible fist thing and praying everyday.

I’ve really been reconsidering some of the things I do, am involved with, and pondering whether they are righteous or not. I have found with this whole “giving up Dr. Pepper” thing that I do have a very strong will-power… if I want to. I can do things if I really want to without wavering, but I have to set my mind to do it.

A lot of times I miss out on conversations because I’m deep in thought about things. I observe a lot, and I sit there and I question things and question myself. Some people might say I have a “holier-than-thou” complex, but that’s not really it. I truly want to do what is completely righteous in the Lord’s sight. However, sometimes I found myself thinking things for my own benefit, and that is when I need to stop and turn my eyes towards Jesus. I need to always be looking towards and for Him in everything I do. He is the one who gives me strength to do the things I do for His glory.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Have you turned your eyes upon Jesus in everything in your life? So that sin will have no dominion over you?

    I know what you mean. So often, I do things for me…not realizing that I’m telling Jesus that I’m the only one that really matters by doing it. I just have this….whatever works for ME mentality.
    Great reminder to turn our eyes on the One that truly deserves it!
    Thanks! :)

    Awww . . . your new avatar is so sweet. You’re just so pretty! I was just talking about that with my momma before you changed your avie – that I kind of missed seeing you and Rachel when you comment. :D Sorry, I still haven’t set up the Gravatar – but I will.

    I saw PC – you can read about what I think at my blog. I did forget to mention that I had a problem with them changing Peter and giving him a proud and controlling temperament. I also didn’t like the whole attack on Miraz’s castle – it was silly and sad and since it wasn’t in the book there was no reason for them to add that in.

    That was a sweet post. It is so beautiful how God gives us the desire to follow Him! Praise be to His name!

    Blessings,
    Miss Emily Rose

    Wonderful post! I actually sang that song as I drove to work today, I think I even cracked a window :)

    I agree, we need to turn our eyes upon Jesus. I haven’t been doing that for the past week and I’m already dealing with issues. I need to read the Bible in the morning as well, it gives us strength throughout the day!

    Great message, keep up the fabulous work!

    The Newsboys (who I’ve been talking about on my blog, though everyone ignores it :P ) have a strictly amazing version of Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, it’s even more amazing live. If they ever take it out of their set list, I’ll–I’ll do something drastic! I love it. ;)

Welcome

Shalom, welcome to A Pondering Heart. I hope you will be challenged by what you read here and it will cause you to search deeper and deeper into the Word of YAH. My name is Jocelyn Tzahala. I'm 19, Woman, Believer. I'm passionate and straight forward... take that into consideration. I am a young woman, living in Latin America, seeking to be 'set apart as YHVH is set-apart". I want my faith to resemble that Avraham because in him YHVH found a man who would trust in him with everything and act upon his Word. My hope is that my life may be a sweet fragrance unto YHVH the MOST HIGH! HalleluYAH! Read moreabout me here
