Hola Mi Amigos!
Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on June 27, 2010 | Category: Life in Costa Rica
This blog has been sorely needing an update for awhile, but I haven’t been very motivated to write anything. My brain has been fried. It’s late now and I don’t feel like be wordy, so I’m just gonna update with whatever pops into my head…. ok, not whatever, but you get the general idea.
- YHVH provided a house for us to rent with plenty of room and a ministry-center attached for a low expense. We are moving this week! I will be happy to have our own space again. HalleluYah! Two families living together is only for a season.
- I designed over $200 worth of graphics and in a timely manner. I was quite proud of myself, and blessed to be able to give to the families at Gleaning The Harvest.
- I set up the home page for Dixon Family Ministries.
- I created this awesome template: The Wiz Kid. I didn’t do it intentionally but it kinda goes along with this awesome template: Summer Dreams.
- I drew a logo-sketch for a new venture my family is going into to have all the funds we need to survive here.
- Our new friend, Kerlyn, has taught us some Espanol and likes to accompany us to translate with the locals. She’s really sweet.
- Samuel is pulling himself up and moving around a lot more. He is also reaching out and doing a hand-motion of “come here”.
- I remembered I had more clothes in a packing tub and was excited to have three skirts to wear now!
- I-Spy books are wonderful for practicing words and definitions of a new language… now only if we had some in Espanol.
- I am continually astonished at people’s selfishness. Selfishness is often the root of most problems and I believe it ties directly in with rebellion which is what causes one to be in opposition of YHVH, thus loving one another as ourselves.
- We still need a new camera (NO PHOTOS for almost TWO MONTHS!). Anyone have any suggestions on a nice one that isn’t too costly for a family of 11?
- Cociné pollo y pasta de salsa de zapallo…. This was so yummy. I shall have to write out a recipe sometime and post it. The Littles who hate zapallo loved it!
- Rachel and I stayed up until 4am baking cookies and bread and then went and sold them at 9am the ‘next’ day. Oh yeah, that was fun, especially the ‘Rudolph” nose I had afterward. :-/
- Every night you can hear a whistling sound far off and I have no idea what it is! It drives me nuts!
- Within the passed week I probably walked ten miles, and yes, I have lost weight.
- I will be publishing the July Issue of Challenging Femininity in a few days!
- We couldn’t bring any of our furniture with us and are unable to purchase any at present, so my bed is made up of 9-packing tubs with three blankets on top.
- Zucchini bread isn’t common in Costa Rica and trying to sell it is interesting…. some Ticos don’t even want to try it, but those who did, of course, loved it. Hey, if some said ‘pea-bread’ I’d give them a weird look too, although I highly doubt pea-bread would be that gross.
- I’ve been waiting for our printer to arrived to print out some Scripture and we cannot find the USB cord to hook it up to the computer. Oh brother!
- I am having my novel editing and perhaps finally having it published, and yes that is all the information you will be getting at this time. *winks*
- There is a sliding-glass door in the back of the house that several children have run into, and Rachel tried to put food into the crock-pot with the glass lid still on…. hmmm.
- We watched the Blind Side film finally. I enjoyed it. Very well-done.
- The New Moon is supposed to be here in the next two-weeks. I am hoping you can see more of the moon at the new house. It often hides here.
- I found Miss Marple episodes on youtube!
- You cannot use Netflix unless you live in the US! #epicfail!
- I really do miss my sister, Amanda… If you see her, please let her know. I can’t find her. I see photos of someone who looks like her, but its not her. “…the spirit indeed is eager, but human nature is weak.”
- Trying to let my anger go in certain situations, and trust in the Father. I know YHVH will discipline those who come against our family unit and seek to destroy it. Woe to them to invoke rebellion – for it is as the sin of sorcery.
- Sometimes a person needs to be let go in order for YHVH to bring them where he wants them – just like the Israelites in the desert who had to keep going around that mountain until they were ready to be in subjection to the will of the Mighty One.
- Thankful for the friendship of certain people and for the help they offer!
- I haven’t had a Dr. Pepper since we got here – you can only find it in little cans (maybe)! *huffs* “Say it is not so!” “Woe is us, tis true!”
- I hate living in the city. I feel like Heidi, “Where are the mountains? Where are the mountains?” Although, we can see the mountains.
- I can say now words in Espanol and some greetings in Espanol and Francais…. Hasta luego!

Uplifting… our family, too, is uprooted and staying with another family and I would say the enemy is busy trying to strike against us in this situation. He keeps us all, amen.

I really enjoyed reading your update – praying that the Lord blesses you! Where is your sister, Amanda??
Love,
Jenna

Amanda left home back in March, and has been living a separate life from our family since.

It is nice to hear from you again after such a while. Certainly life seems “ungo-onable” sometimes but keep Romans 8:28 in your heads and in your hearts and things will be easier.(Dr. Peppers or no Dr. Peppers. What are they anyway???)
Your mother seems a lovely, encouraging kind of person, and this is a big advantage.
Your Spanish is getting better every day. It would be ‘ mi amigo’ (singular) or ‘mis amigos’ (plural). All you need to do is use it. I studied nothing, you just have to break the ice and dive in. Keep up the good work. I am praying for you all.
A big, long distance hug from somebody you do not know!!!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. :)
Dr. Pepper is a beverage, like Coca-Cola.
Oh, thank you for letting me know about the plural form of ‘my friends’. lol
Aww, hugs back.

Thank you for sharing Miss Jocelyn! So much is happening to you all :) Most of it blessed by Yah. Can’t wait to see what the new house will look like….and I know how hard it is to live with another family, I did that last year. I am praying hard for what Yah will do in your ministry and the lives of others. I hope others can be moved as I have been.
Shalom!

Wow, and I thought I was busy! Praise God that you and your family found a house! I hope it begins to feel like home quickly. Ummmm I’m not sure what type of camera your family is looking for, but if you want a relatively low priced DSLR that takes amazing photos the Nikon D3000 fits the bill. My sister and photographer friend have Nikon D60’s and D40’s both of which they love. The D3000 is sort of the updated replacement of the D60. Course, if you’re looking for a simple point and shoot camera, I can’t help you there… that’s what my family’s looking for with no success yet!
Your family will be in my prayers! If there’s anything specific you want me to pray for just let me know.

LOL Yes, halleluYah! My dad just went to the place today and I can’t wait to go! Can’t wait to see what else Yah does!!
I would LOVE to have the Nikon D3000, but that is just way too much. Yeah, just a camera. We had a Fuji finepix 300 (or something) before so just something that we can take photos. ;) If we find something, I’ll let you know!
Thank you Kate, that is thoughtful of you. You too!

I have a Canon A590. I love it! It’s about $100, but it is so worth it. It has great image quality and is so easy to just carry around in my purse! I got mine from Wally World (Walmart for those who don’t know). :-) I think you should definitely check it out.
Blessings in Messiah,

I’ll be praying you find Amanda. I too am learning Espanol and it is a lot of fun. I saw in the comments you told your mom I love you, which is Te Quiero, in Spanish. =) I think for a female it might be Te Quiera, but idk. I always liked the way that sounds. Anyways, you probably already knew that, but…

Lauren's Reply:

“Te quiero” doesn’t change when you’re talking to a girl/woman. The “o” ending has to do with tense and speaker, not gender (since this is a verb, not a noun or adjective). The “o” is kinda like the word “I” in “I love you.” Hope that helps!
Sorry…I love Spanish and grammar…I couldn’t help myself… ;-)

It sounds like YHWH is refining His children right now. We’re in a season on transformation as well. We must all be transformed into the character of The Lamb of G-d. Some are just further along than others. Be encouraged! His beautiful refining fire is rising the impurities to the top, to be skimmed away, similar to a metal melter who is purifying gold. :) Many of us are being tested as well. I am so happy to see The Father providing for your family. He is so gracious and faithful! May the blessings of Heaven be poured out upon those who seek Him and do His will. Blessings Dixons! :) You are in my prayers often. I’ll also pray for your sister. Love, Amy

Heh, I wish I could unpack boxes and find more skirts. I’m planning on wearing more of them (shocking, I know!), but I can’t afford to buy them. Rats!
…Like you needed to lose weight… :-/
If you need fresh eyes on your novel, I’ve done lots of editing at the college and freelance editing on novels. And for you, my dear friend, always free. :)
Sorry I haven’t responded to your email yet. It’s been a whirl around here! I will reply! Honest!

I know what you mean Jen, but YHVH will provide for you – I’ll pray someone gets rid of some old clothes and gives them to you and there are several skirts in there for you!
Ha, no I didn’t need to lose weight, but lose I did.
Ah, I remember you have an eye for editing. Whatever happened to your novel. Did you get it published??
Oh no worries about the email. I forgive you. ;) Awaiting your reply, m’dear!
Until then, lots of love!

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Hello! I am so glad to hear that you are all doing so well. I can remember when we moved to Mexico and I know that it wasn’t one of the easiest experiences, but it was so worth it! It’s especially nice to have such a large family when most of the people around you don’t speak your language. It won’t take long for you all to learn; don’t be surprised if the youngest are the first to speak fluently! I am sure that you already have some books and materials for learning Spanish, but if you don’t I can give you some titles of books that I have found extremely useful in learning.
Yeah, living with two large families in one house can be a little crowded, I am so glad to hear that you were able to find a new location! Praise God! Is the new house in town or out?
Yes, unfortunately, all lovers of Dr. Pepper are destined to suffer in Mexico, the land of Coca Cola! I make up for it by drinking a bunch when we go back to the States to visit!
Well, I should probably go help my mother with lunch! If God allows, I shall be a little more faithful in commenting on your blog in the upcoming months.
Dios te bendice, Jocelyn, may the Lord guide you and keep you and your family from harm!
Resting in His arms of grace,
–Sarah

Hola Sarah! Nice to hear from you. I got your email, but haven’t had time to respond. My mom has curriculum for our school on learning Espanol and we have friends here who speak Ingles and Espanol. I will keep you in mind if we need new material!
The house is in town, but it is a little town and has a big yard so it will be alright. We will be able to have chickens and we have a friend who has chickens, goats, and cows!!!
Yeah, they have soda-pop here but no DP!!! :(
Blessings to you too!

Oh Jocelyn,
My heart goes to you, for many reasons….I know it is a changing time for you and your family. I know you and your family are/do seeking/seek….the Father. It is interesting to think how things change so fast within friends and family….and the costs of truly seeking HIM.
May you be blessed, have your Dr. Peppers and KNOW there are still those who pray for and love you/your family. I don’t know the situation with Amanda, but I do know….do not give up hope, I can relate because of my two sons….so cling to hope.
Blessings dear daughter of YAH!

I hope you get your dr. pepper soon! LOL. I’m so happy to have found your blog. We have felt a similar calling and are currently selling all of our possessions to move to Belize. So nice to read about someone who has “been there done that” Many think we are crazy (of course.. those same family and friends think we are crazy for realizing we need to follow torah) but I figure that if YHWH leads us somewhere it can only bring blessings if we follow his path.

Wow, lots has happened since last update. Thank God you all found a house and will be moving soon – Plus an added Ministry annex. :)
I’m surviving w/out Pepsi after a 10 year habit so I’m sure someone as disciplined as you will do just fine w/out her DrPepper. :) Does Fanta have a version of DrPepper? Like Mr. Pibb?
Hoping a Camera comes your way as your pictures are always a joy to see.
Cool how Samuel is growing up just fine. :)
You all must have gotten the Visa thing fixed as it seems you are all settling in.
God bless your family. ((((hugs to Amanda & Know God’s got his arms wrapped around her sweet soul)))

Hi Jocelyn,
You mentioned that you were interested in an inexpensive camera? I know of a place where you might be able to purchase one. http://www.academicsuperstore.com gives discounts to homeschoolers, teachers, schools, ect. You may want to check it out. Often the discounts can be as much as 50% off the MSRP!

I, too, have a Canon Powershot. I got mine from Amazon almost 2 years ago and love it. I looked and they don’t have mine anymore but have the next model up for about $125 w/shipping. Can you order from Amazon in Costa Rica? Here’s the link: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-A480-2-5-inch-Silver/dp/B001SER4BU/ref=sr_1_29?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1279719534&sr=1-29
I did a lot of research before I purchased my camera, and it paid off. It had to be inexpensive, but I wanted good quality. I also wanted there to be little to no lag time between pressing the button and the picture actually being captured (an annoying issure with digital point-and-shoots). I got great value for the money I spent on it. It has been well worth it.
