O Hero Of Mine

My Great-Grandfather served this country during World War II and afterward as a volunteer fireman. Even now as he battles cancer and the effects of old age he is a trooper… with a sense of humour… and I love every bit of him. He was pretty handsome too, wasn’t he? It has been such a blessing and honour to be able to know my great-grandparents. They were and are such a cute couple. May Yahweh bless and grant shalom to the men and women who have served our country. We remember you.

Proverbs 20:29
The pride of the young is their strength; the dignity of the old is gray hair.

Lovely post, Miss J! I most know about my father-in-law who served in WWII and the Korean War. Actually, my grandfather served also, but I know very little. My dad was military, but not during wartime. It’s overwhelming what these selfless people have done for our nation. May we never forget.

    Blessings!

Wonderful tribute and photo of your great grandfather. My stepfather also served in WWII. I hope your Grandfather does not experience too much suffering in his cancer battle.

Friends of our family at church just lost their son/nephew/grandson to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on November 5. Please say a prayer for the Aaron Aamot family. He was 22 years old. God is so good, Aaron had just been home on leave so everyone was able to see him before he went back.

  30. He looks like a very kind man. I, too, know my great-grandparents, and learning from and visiting with them has been such a great blessing.

My grandmother’s brother was in the Air Force during WWII. His plane went down in the waters near the shores of Japan, and to this day we are unaware of what happened to him. Grandma has been in contact with men who were on his plane, and they say he survived the crash, but they don’t know what happened to him after that. It’s a real mystery.

I’m so thankful for my great-uncle, your great-grandfather and others who have so fearlessly and faithfully served our country!

How neat to have that heritage!!

I was blessed to be able to get to know my great-grandmother when I was younger but sadly she died when I was thirteen. My two remaining blood grandparents are now almost 70 and 77 (on two different sides of the family) and I pray that I have the vision to learn from them while I have the chance!

Awe this is a great pic. My grandpa was in WWII. (Funny that your GREAT grandfather was in WWII and my grandfather was in it… Haha, an entire generation of space!)

I feel the same way, I have loved getting to know my grandparents, they are great people. So many kids our age lose out when they toss grandparents off as “old and crazy”. We could learn so much from our grandparents and great grandparents, as I’ve heard the WWII generation called “The greatest there ever was”.

Here is my grandpa and I think a sound clip is on there of him telling stories about WWII from my mom’s blog: http://www.cathynagle.com/super-simple-spiritual-sunday-2/

Sorry this was long winded. I love WWII and I was excited to see this pic on your blog. :) Keep up the great work!!
