No More Dr. Pepper, Please!

This is actually an old post I found while sorting through my categories. I thought it was kind of funny because when I posted this I wasn’t eating ANY junk food, and now I find myself eating quite a lot.

—————————————————————-

Belly Flab Won’t Go Away?
If you avoid simple sugars such as candy, cookies, juices, pop, cake, and chocolate you will see amazing changes. When you eat Carbohydrate food such as Fruit or Whole grains, be sure to pair it with protein and a fat. This will decrease blood sugar response. Choose Whole grain carbs while avoiding anything with white, such as white bread and white rice. You can find brown rice at your local wal-mart store.

If you follow this principle, you will be creating a very stable and even blood sugar level. This combined with calorie control and exercise is sure to reduce inches around you waist.

The first few days you might feel tired and lethargic. This response is your body withdrawing from sugar. Yes, Sugar is an addiction and when you go cold turkey, you will feel extra tired for a day or two. After this initial phase-in period, you will find that you have extra energy that you no longer crave sweets!

This diet requires LOTS of water, about 64 ounces of pure, unflavored a day. This will keep you from carving sweets and will keep your energy up.

Here are a couple suggestions for starting out. These have just the amount of carb, fat and protein you need.

Breakfast:
· (½ c. dry) oatmeal topped with ½ apple, cinnamon, and one hardboiled egg.
· 1 slice of whole grain toast topped with 1tbsp of peanut butter and tbsp of low sugar jam.
· 2egg served with a whole wheat muffin.

Here are some good snacks for the between meals hunger:
· 1 string cheese with a handful of berries
· 1 rice cake with a smear of peanut butter.
· 1 small Orange with 10 almonds
· A glass of skim milk with 5 wheat crackers.
· A whole grapefruit
· 4 ounces of low fat yogurt with a tbsp a chopped walnuts.

And also if you’re just looking to tone up your muscles, do some situps. Not 15 or 20. I’m talking like at least a hundred at one setting.

—————————————————————-

There is a lot of good, healthy info right there, you know. I should read through my blog more often! I wish I were still all crazy about only eating things that were %100 healthy for me. Sigh.

But HEY – Mom and I are giving up Dr. Pepper. Yes, I know it’s terrible, but it’s not good for me. It IS! I know it! I don’t think I’ve gained any weight drinking it, but I think my face does look fuller since I have become addicted to it. I did have ONE cup today and none yesterday, which is pretty much amazing. I can’t believe I actually went a whole day without it, but when you don’t have something within your reach you can’t have it!

Keep all the soda-pop, chips, chocolate, and other forms of non-healthy food out of this house and AWAY from me!

It’s not about being overweight. It’s about being healthy and fit. These are our temples and the Bible speaks about taking good care of them. We can’t act on our fleshly desires… no matter how close the Dr. Pepper bottle is to your cold cup of ice!

Maybe once I get this under-control (Dr. Pepper addiction) I will really work on getting to bed at a descent time. I have actually gone to bed earlier than usually these past few nights (except last night because I had a deadline). I’d like to start running or walking in the morning, but I can’t do that if I don’t get up IN the morning.

So anything that you should give up that would make you healthier, even if you don’t want to? C’mo, I know there’s something… even if it doesn’t have to do with food.

Thats me. Right there. I’d LOVE to get up in the morning but I can’t!!! Arg!
Wow, giving up dr. Pepper? I love it, but my mom rarely gets it, which is probably a good thing . . .

Heh… I’ve had three Dr. Peppers this year, and they were celebrations. I can’t even imagine drinking it every day! *gag* Now, I *love* DP, but… every day?

This morning, I discovered a way to tempt myself out of bed earlier. I left my curtains open all night so that when I woke up, I could see what a beautiful day it was! Uh… that’s a slight dramatization, because in reality it looked wet, cold, and nasty out there, but it worked! So I jumped out of bed at 6!

You have a wonderful day, my friend. :-)

  5. Jen says:

Oh, and about going to bed earlier:

When one wishes to go to bed, one must say to the family (who wishes to watch a movie, play a game, etc), “I’m terribly sorry, but I simply must retire to bed now, else I shall fall asleep on the floor where I stand! I shall see you all bright and early tomorrow!” Then one goes and brushes her teeth, puts on her jammies, reads her Bible, then crawls under her blankets congratulating herself on another difficult task accomplished!

All kidding aside, I do wish the Lord’s blessing on your goals, Jocelyn. :-)

I gave up Coke (and I love Coke slurpees) about a year ago, I noticed that my weight seemed to moving up and down to much, plus my face was breaking out all the time. I only drink it once in a while now…;)

I’ve had to give up a lot of caffine, and might be getting to the none at all stage. That’s a big one for me, I’m like the coffee queen! But for the last 2-3 months I have been really really struggling with sleeping.. some nights, it takes me 2 hours to go to sleep. I don’t know if it’s the caffine, I think I’m stuck in the “I hope I go to sleep tonight” thought. Ick, it’s so scary.

Good for you giving up the soda though! As much as that soda is yummy, you’ll start to like NOT drinking it! I started drinking a lot of tea, which can be high in the sugar too if you let it. But we found this stuff, called Agave necter, good heavens, I think I spelled that right! It’s just like honey and it’s all natural. It just doesn’t have that strong taste that honey does.. which I don’t really care for in drinks ;).

    Have a great day! Love

    Greetings,
I’m sorry I haven’t sent a comment for such a long time. Things are slowing down for me, just a little bit. I still have some costumes to finish today, ahh…trying not to think about about it, then more pratices this week…once those are done…opening night for Cinderella is Thursday!! That is a little scary, but nice too.

I enjoyed reading your post. I must say though, I haven’t had Dr.Pepper in months. We buy it as a little treat every now and then…like a dessert. :)
Good advice about eating better, and staying fit. It is hard to drag myself out of bed everymorning to go walking or running…(trust me, that alarm clock that says 6:00am..is not fun!)But, the nice thing is mom usually goes with me so that way we both do it…makes is easier I think.

Well, I am sorry I was talking to long in this comment….ahh, best get back to work.
I’ll be praying for you to this week….with having to give up Dr.Pepper and all.

Oh, I found a nice little drink to make when I want something to drink, and am sick of water…peppermint iced tea. :) It is really tasty…I just make a big batch and put it in the fridge…

Well, I hope you are having a good day!

  10. Ashley says:

    Oh, yeah. *sigh*

I really simply need to deny myself my third-helpings (*blush*) and go ahead and shake the last 10lbs of baby weight! The 10# that grew to about 15# recently! YIKES!

They sell these pink wintergreen candies around here . . . I ADORE wintergreen! I even bought a winter green bush this spring that I can pick the leaves off of for tea! Those candies are my nemesis! :)

The sad thing is, when I’m drinking my herbal teas and taking my spirulina it amazes me how much I DON’T need to eat and I have lots of energy! But I usually get scared and go off of my supliments and start eating a bunch thereafter. I think it’s just because my body is getting the nutrients I need I’m not starving all the time – but it feels so strange that I don’t trust it. I never realized how “enjoyable” eating is until this year. :(

Anyway, I enjoyed the post!!!! :)

I was never overweight until I had several babies. Just because you CAN get away with eating/drinking sugary things does not mean you should!

    Good for you!

    God bless.

  15. My mother used to boil Dr. Pepper and add lemon to it when I was a kid. It tasted more like a hot tea than Dr. Pepper (but I guess you weren’t really looking for more ways to drink it, now were you?). :-)

I know what you mean about eating habits. I’m not overweight, either, but I know eating unhealthy is still bad for my body! The problem is, I really have no desire to eat healthier!! :-) I really don’t eat THAT unhealthy…I rarely have soft drinks, and we don’t a lot of “junk food”. Except chocolate. Chocolate is my downfall!!
    Talk to you later!

Uh, yeah. You’d better cut back just a smidge…

I’m glad you liked my explanation of Aren. :-) The picture is actually digitally made. I wouldn’t dare tell someone they look like Aren. It would not be a compliment. By any stretch of the imagination. Not a bit. I mean, he’s really sick, and most of the time he looks it. Poor fellow. I’m so mean to him…

If you want more of an explanation than is good for you, try these links (you don’t have to. I’m sure you’ve got quite enough to do!). It’s told from the point of view of the main character, Lyric.

Hi Joc, If blogging does one thing, it sure does keep us accountable to what we post, doesn’t it. *smile*

I wish you all the best with giving up Dr. Pepper! I know some of what you’re going through. Since last year I’ve had to give up a lot of my favorite foods due to health reasons, including wheat and dairy. You don’t know how much I miss being able to have a quesadilla with cheese! Ahem, anyway, stay strong! You can do it. :-)

As for what I should give up… I always need to cut back on the time I spend reading blogs. That’s a tough one, but do-able.

    Have a good day!
    Love,
    Mandy
