Women of the Proverbs

Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on September 15, 2009 | Category: Homekeeping, I Follow Yeshua HaMashyiach, Ponder Me This

Which woman are you striving to be like? And which woman does your personality, dreams, and hopes reflect? To look to the ways of your house or elsewhere?

Proverbs 31:27
“She watches how things go in her house, not eating the bread of idleness.”

Proverbs 7:11
“She’s the coarse, impulsive type, whose feet don’t stay at home”

There’s two types of women in the proverbs… So again, which one do you want to be and which one does your speech and actions portray you as? I’m constantly hearing via twitter, facebook, blogs of all the events and happenings for women {wives, mothers, single} to go off and do… I want to encourage you to evaluate you how you spend your time and thought-life {ie status updates}. Where is your treasure? In Proverbs 31 or Proverbs 7?

I was just thinking about those verses last week. I had a friend whose husband wanted her to be home more often. I was able to minister to her and share with her scriptures on where her feet should be. I used to want to be other places other than just home. As soon as my kids were done with their lessons and the house clean, we were off somewhere, to the park, to the store, etc. Then one week we got snowed in. We couldn’t get our van out of the driveway. We live in the country, so there was no leaving. It was the best week I’d ever had in my home. I was relaxed, there was more peace, and I had wonderful quiet moments with God that I didn’t know I was missing out on. He even started stirring in me my song writing gift I didn’t know was there. Now I don’t miss out on the chance to stay at home, and I cherish every moment of it!

Goodness! I know which one I want to be like, too!

Proverbs are so special to me–I’m thankful for the way it was written. It is great how it gives us good examples of what we need to be like, and bad examples of what we DON’T want to be like.

    Blessings!

This is such a powerful comparison, Jocelyn. Every woman needs to consider those two scriptures.

I don’t know whether you are familiar with Nancy DeMoss, but her ministry, Revive Our Hearts, has many printable downloads that deal with biblical womanhood, revival, marriage, and a number of other topics. I just used one that dealt with pride vs. humility when I taught some ladies two weeks ago. Another compares the meek and quiet spirit with the fretful spirit. Here is the link to all the downloads, if you are interested: http://www.reviveourhearts.com/topics/downloads/

Well seeing as I’m EXHAUSTED from my very busy day (and all my Tuesdays will be that full from now on, eek), I’d definitely say that I haven’t eaten the bread of idleness!

Haha at my theology course (which is partly why I am so exhausted) the first thing we studied was how Jesus emphasised the importance of the Torah – I thought of you!

  18. Thank you for this Miss Jocelyn. I am a homebody by YHWH’s design, but there are times I am home that I do not do what I am supposed to. So while I may be like the first in some respects, I still need work.

Welcome

Shalom, welcome to A Pondering Heart. I hope you will be challenged by what you read here and it will cause you to search deeper and deeper into the Word of YAH.
