His Will, My Joy
Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on July 18, 2009 | Category: Saturday Psalm & Praise
It was made quite clear in in the Word when Samuel told Saul that obedience was more important then sacrifices after Saul disobeyed YHVH’s Word in order to offer a sacrifice to Him. Today, still, we tend to think that if we are giving, offering, sacrificing our life, our time, our money in His name we are always doing good. However, do we miss the same aim that Saul did? Do we offer sacrifices instead of obedience? I think in many cases we do. We forget to ask Him what His will is, and unintentionally do our own. It is possible to do good without being obedient. How many times have you heard that from your parents when you do something “good” instead of doing what you were told to do?
Psalms 40: 6-10
Sacrifices and grain offerings you don’t want; burnt offerings and sin offerings you don’t demand. Instead, you have given me open ears; 7 so then I said, “Here I am! I’m coming! In the scroll of a book it is written about me. 8 Doing your will, my God, is my joy; your Torah is in my inmost being. 9 I have proclaimed what is right in the great assembly; I did not restrain my lips, YHVH, as you know. 10 I did not hide your righteousness in my heart but declared your faithfulness and salvation; I did not conceal your grace and truth from the great assembly.”
We tend to think that the sacrifices and offerings Israel gave before the Messiah was to save them, but Hebrews 10 tells us that is not so. Those were only to cover the sins, not remove them. Only through faith were they saved – through faith, obedience, love of the Father and the hope they had in the Messiah were they saved.
YHVH doesn’t want your sacrifices. He doesn’t want your offerings. He wants your full attention. He wants you to open your ears. He wants you to follow His Word to the letter. He wants your faith, love, obedience, and hope in Him. He doesn’t want anything from you that you cannot give.
When it comes down to it you must ask yourself if you’re obeying the Scriptures as it instructs or as it fits your life. I want His Will to be my joy and his Torah to be my inmost being. I want to declare his faithfulness and salvation, and display his grace and truth to those around me. I know David wasn’t anywhere near a perfect man but he was described as being a man after God’s own heart, and there is great wisdom in what he had to say about many things.
Shalom Shabbat!

Good post Jocelyn! There are so many misconceptions about salvation before Jesus walked the earth!

Wow! Great post Jocelyn! It’s very easy to forget that! I fall in this area sometimes…I too often will “do good” around the house, but skip my devotions in the morning! Very easy to get caught in that trap! Thank you for the reminder to be careful of this!
Blessings and Hugs!

Ditto, wonderful Sabbath devotion Jocelyn. :) I do have some questions tho. What do you mean by the Lord not wanting our sacrifices and offerings? And when you say the WORD, are you referring to the written word?
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not wanting to argue with you, I’m just asking. :)

I mean that he’d rather have your complete obedience then all the sacrifices you could offer. He was not pleased with Saul’s sacrifices because he was not in complete obedience to His Will. I meant both.

Preach it, sistah! ^_^ Amen and amen…you can do everything you want to “please God”, but what He’s looking for is your obedience!! Seems to me that people rather tend to through in the whole “Torah’s done away with” speach right about when you mention the obedience part. =P
Miss ya’ll mucho. =( We’re going camping again next week….wish it was to your house!! ^_^
