{THC} Still Summer I Say!
Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on September 21, 2009 | Category: Homesteading
I hear many are getting ready for fall and fall-weather. I saw my first fall-giveaway today and I am sure there will be plenty more fall-themed posts coming along shortly. Posts on fall-recipes and fall-clothing and fall-decorating and fall-harvesting. A friend emailed last week and wondered if we were getting “some lovely fall-ish weather” like they had been!
I’m not ready to give up on summer yet. I think there is still at least few more weeks of hot, sunny weather ahead. In fact I’m praying for it! However, on days like this where there have been a few showers and it’s a bit cooler it might be the perfect time to curl with a warm cup of tea, a few scones, and catch up on some reading. Here are some for the Homesteading Carnival to get you started:
I thought Wise_Bread’s post on Eat Healthy this Winter Without Spending a Fortune was very well-written and an excellent resource.
Kathy Doyle at The Cottage Garden Farmer shares her recipe for Haw Sauce…. very interesting. I’ve never heard of this before but it might be tasty.
Miss Rachel at A City On A Hill is always cooking something good. I should know. haha She makes all sorts of yummy-things, including Lime Rice Pilaf and Honey-Whole Wheat Bread.
Make It From Scratch has posted a great alternative to the standard peanut butter and jelly with homemade Creamy Banana Nut Honey Spread. Of course liking bananas can play a big factor. hehe
Amanda made some Fried Goodness and it is. Add a little flavour to your green beans.
I’m not one for lemon but maybe chocolate would be alright. Annette Berlin shares a super quick and easy recipe for Bubby’s Lemon Pie posted at Craft Stew, saying, “This is the easiest dessert I know. My mother-in-law made this for many years, sometimes using chocolate pudding in place of the lemon pie filling.”
Robin at the Heart of Wisdom shares the cutest idea to use with Apple Honey Cake, and I’m gonna have to try it sometime – maybe in honour of Spritti’s birthday in a few months?
I want some of what Raine family is having this week, especially that chili relleno improv.
If “pears are the poor man’s apple,” how happy am I not to be rich.” I’d have to agree with Lara DeHaven at Texas Homesteader and I enjoyed learning a bit about Pears in her post. Wondering about that goat-milk ice cream too.
Jacque at Training Daughters, Teaching Wives all the good things that come from vinegar and even how to make your own in her post Making the Home: Vinegar Disinfectant.
Christin at Journey to a Gracious Woman posts on If Mama Ain’t Happy…ain’t nobody happy! Not something we ever do intentinally but something that does happen.
While fall may be coming you still have to watch out for the poison ivy, and Jacque at Walking Therein shares Poison Ivy! Helps if it got you.
Now that I’m done with post the sun came out and it’s quite cheery. Yep, I think autumn will hold off a little longer! How about you?
