Hosanna! Hosanna!

Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on May 8, 2009 | Category: Marvels, Shabbat Shalom Praise

I’ve always loved this song from the film A Prince of Egypt – probably because of how beautiful the Hebrew sounds. However, in the film there was no translation of what the Hebrew children were singing when they are freed from Egyptian rule. When we finally found  out what they were actually singing I was more in love with this song.

Saturday Psalm & PraiseAshira el Adonnay ki ga’o ga’a
I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously
Ashira el Adonnay ki ga’o ga’a
I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously
Ashira el Adonnay ki ga’o ga’a
I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously

Mi chamocha ba’elim, Adonnay?
Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods?
Mi kamocha ne’edar bakodesh?
Who is like you, glorious in holiness?
Nachita bechasdecha, am a’m zu ga’alta
You in your mercy have led forth the people whom you have redeemed
Nachita bechasdecha, am a’m zu ga’alta
You in your mercy have led forth the people whom you have redeemed
Mashi’yach! Mashi’yach! Mashi’yach!
Messiah! Messiah! Messiah!

listen to song, this particular part is at time 2:27

All during the time the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt they cried out to Adonai to “deliver us! save us!” which in Hebrew is “Hosanna! Hosanna!”. This might bring some thought to when Yeshua entered Jerusalem for Pesach [Passover] when the people cried “Hosanna! Hosanna!” to Him. Like many things in the Torah the slaves in Egypt crying out “Hosanna” was a foreshadow of what the people would do to when the Messiah came to deliver them. This time, however, it was not from physical bondage but spiritual bondage.

Yeshua came to hosanna the people, that includes you. Have you accepted His freedom from spiritual bondage?

Shalom Shabbat!

That was always my fave song off The Prince of Egypt. It is so powerful and beautiful in English, but my love for it was even deeper when I heard it in Hebrew. The words are so wonderful to remember!

  4. That is beautiful, Jocelyn! The kids just had to watch/listen to the clip!

To be honest, I really was just stopping by to wish you a Happy Birthday ;-) And I was blessed in return! I’ve had an emotional week, and I don’t want to think about how long I’ve known you and get all teary-eyed at my computer. It has been wonderful knowing you and watching you grow up. Just because you’re “officially, legally” an adult doesn’t mean I haven’t seen your maturity, and I appreciate your dedication to your family and am in awe at your pursuit of God. Be blessed!

    Love,
    Danielle

I like your parallel here! Nicely thought out. I very much agree with the O.T. being the physical and the N.T. being the spiritual, too. I could see you even going further with the parallel in the fact that the Israelites would have starved physically if God had not sent them physical food. Likewise are souls are in danger of starvation without the spiritual nourishment He provides. Also, the Israelites would have died in their sin unless they looked upon the serpent that God had raised up on a pole and we are doomed in our sin unless we look on Him on the cross and except His great sacrifice! It’s all so intriguing and beautiful! lol. Thank you for sharing!

btw- My sisters and I love this song and we once memorized it off the movie but we never knew what they/we were saying. lol. Thanks for the translation. :)

I have not heard that song before but the words are beautiful. Well the english words are and no doubt so it is in Hebrew. May I share this poem with you? I am a christian and have written many poems and one or two songs to our God.

    (song)

    O Dear heavenly Father
I praise you Lord this day,
    Fill me with your Spirit,
    Watch over me I pray.
For you are the king of glory,
    The mighty God above,
And you are the Rock on which I stand,
    Of everlasting love.

    Meet me in the morning
And walk with me each day,
    Guide my faltering footsteps,
That my heart will not stray,
For you are my true salvation,
    My only destiny,
And I long to see you face to face,
    In all your majesty.

Welcome

Shalom, welcome to A Pondering Heart. I hope you will be challenged by what you read here and it will cause you to search deeper and deeper into the Word of YAH. My name is Jocelyn Tzahala.
