Life-Size Noah’s Ark
Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on December 26, 2008 | Category: Marvels, The Scriptures
Have you ever wondered just how big Noah’s Ark really was? The Bible says exactly how big it is, but to see it live and in person would be something, wouldn’t it? Well, there is a man, a contractor by trade, named Johan Huibersa Dutch Creationist, who has built a replica of the ark out of cedar and pine. This amazing creation has been visited by more than 300,000 people, and though it’s only half of what the actual Ark would’ve been it usually takes visitors about 1½ hours to walk through.
I must say this is very impressive and would be a sight to see, but unless you’re taking a trip to Holland, the photos will have to suffice for now. You can click on them for a large image, and see Noah’s Ark Replica Schagen Netherlands.
Mr. Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top – deck not quite ready in time for the opening – will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.
Can you imagine being one of the local residents and coming upon something like this, and only half the size?! ‘It’s pas t comprehension’, said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark looming over the local landscape.
“I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big”‘ There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark. Mr. Huibers is a Christian man, who “hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands , where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years”.
The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That’s two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house. Inside as you walk through you’ll find life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals in the main hold. Many people question just how Noah fit all the animals into the ark, but what they don’t realize is that he probably didn’t take full-grown ones. As Kent Hovind pointed out baby-animals are smaller, sleep more, and eat less. Why would he take a giant elephant when he could take a newborn? We don’t know how everything was portrayed in detail, but we do know that if God said to do it, it can be achieved.
Psalm 71:18
“Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.”
Also, something interesting to check out… Archaeologist, Ron Wyatt, believes he and his team may have found the actual Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat in Turkey in 1960! There is debate on what actually happened to the ark after the flood. Some people say they they reused the wood, others say they just left it there and it rotted, and then some say that they burned it. Nothing can be certain but it certainly is intriguing, and whether or not it is Noah’s Ark it looks very much like the remains of a very large boat. Go see for yourself.
Shalom,

I blogged about this before. Just one point about the replica; yes, it’s impressive, but according to his website it’s actually only built approximately to scale and is 1/2 the length and 1/3 the width of the Biblical dimensions.
So the Biblical ark would have been even bigger!

I’ve read some of the discoveries by Ron Wyatt. I think he did his research and actually did discover all of the stuff on his website.
That’s a pretty neat looking replica of the ark. :)

I believe that God sent the baby animals to the ark as well. It would have been wise to do it that way and since we know God is Wisdom I think He did it that way.

Wow! That is something! It would be awesome to see.
You might find this site interesting too – it has more “discoveries” – I believe they were all (or mostly) made by Ron Wyatt. But it is very interesting. http://users.netconnect.com.au/~leedas/index.html

That is so neat! It would be even neater to see an actual-size replica, though. :)

Oh, and I’ve heard a lot of claims that Ron Wyatt has made, most of which I think are a little outlandish. I’m not saying that these things couldn’t be found, but it’s good to check sources and claims thoroughly.

Thanks for this interesting info! I dont know why the actual Noah’s ark has not been let known to the public! I also heard they found chariots and bones in the red sea from Moses’ time!

That is so neat how God gave Noah the wisdom to build an ark so big! My brothers name is Noah so we often ask him questions about the ark.lol.

Wow, how amazing! I have always wondered what the Noah’s Ark would look like in real life!! They should try fitting every species of animals in there, wouldn’t that be neat?!? Okay okay, I’m demanding too much of them lol. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comment!
I saw an article in the Answers in Genesis magazine a while back about this ark and it intrigued me. I am glad to see that it is drawing such a crowd. What a huge witness to the “little ark with animals stuffed inside it” crowd.
Have a Great Day!

Hello!
I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time, but never left a comment. However, I wish to do so now! :-)

I’ve hear of this and it would be super fun to see!
Some of the ladies at the Crisis Pregnancy Center where I work were telling me about something like this in Branson–I’m not sure that it looks like an ark outside–maybe just the inside. It sounded pretty fascinating, too–with live animals.

My comment about Ron Wyatt was, perhaps, unnecessary, since you weren’t saying whether he was right or not. :) I used to believe his claims about the chariot wheels found in the Red Sea before, but have since heard from Answers in Genesis to be wary of his claims.

:) That’s alright. I didn’t mind. I haven’t done too much study on Mr. Wyatt, but I can believe there are chariot wheels in the Red Sea (and haven’t read any of AIG’s thoughts on the subject). Why wouldn’t there be?

Hey dear girl, good post!
Ron Wyatt actually passed away years ago but his family still operates the museaum. And you know what? It is only abour 10 miles from me, I have driven by there but never stopped, I need to make plans and go when they are open and check it out. I always thought it sounded fascinating! I will let you know if I do.

I must be weird: the ark depicted looks smaller than I would have expected.
A long time ago, in my very pre-Christian days, I read a book called Unicorns in the Rain. It is a young adult book, but any teens reading this should get permission before obtaining and reading the book as some parents might consider the content inappropriate (and as for me, I’m undecided on this subject). The book starts with a “proverb” that says “imagine a world in which God isn’t dead, but in which He hasn’t yet begun to live.”
The story is amazing, and through it I felt that I had gotten an idea in modern, Imperial measurements, of what the Ark would have looked like. I had imagined it somewhat larger somehow. Isn’t it strange what our imaginations will do with information with which they have been presented?
Thank you for sharing this story! Leo and I are talking about going to one of the Creation Museums. There is one just in Kentucky. Have the Dixons been there? If so, what is it like?
