Interview With Christa Taylor And Giveaway!

Posted By Miss Jocelyn Tzahala on November 10, 2008 | Category: Fun Stuff, Interviews, Reviews

I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with Miss Christa Taylor of the modest clothing website Christa-Taylor.com. She is striving to be an example for ladies in this fallen world, and has a very sweet and humble spirit! I interviewed Miss Christa to get to know her a bit better as a young lady, Christian, graduated homeschooler, and fashion designer. I hope you will enjoy this, and stay tune for the goody at the end!

MJ: Thank for joining me Miss Christa. Can you please tell me a little bit about yourself and your family. Where you were raised and how you grew up.

CT: I have the honor of being third born in family of 8 children. I was born and raised in Vancouver, WA – one of the suburbs of Portland, OR. I was home-educated all of my life and have experienced the joy of learning music, art, philosophy, writing, speech, drama, etc all in my own home. We Taylor’s don’t like doing things half-way, so whatever we do – we enter with a will.

MJ: Please, share about being home-educated. In your bio you said “Being home-educated has instilled within me a desire to be a culture changer.” What are some things spiritually and physically you are doing that you feel are changing our culture?

CT: Because we are raised in a Christian worldview, Christian home schoolers have been raised with an innate sense of discernment. That same discernment has birthed a desire to ameliorate the moral decay we see all around us. For me personally, as young girl I understood the scarcity of modesty in our culture, and wanted to see the traditional values of modesty and femininity restored in our society. Years later, by operating a modest clothing store we were saying in effect, “we want other options, modesty and beautiful do go together and we’ll show you how.” In addition, we began speaking on the importance of modesty from the heart, which found an outlet on our blog and through conversations and conferences with other like-minded women. There is an ever-growing enclave of young women that are returning to the beauty of modesty, and these women will someday be the mothers of the next generation. “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.”

MJ: Where do you feel God leading you or revealing to you right now?

CT: Most recently I have been delving into what it means to have a “heart at rest”, to be quiet before the Lord. I memorized Ps 119: 2 “Blessed are those who keep His testimonies who seek Him with their whole heart.” When we as women have a heart at rest, a heart that is “happy” in God, others are able to come into our sphere and find rest as well.

MJ: How long have you had your clothing business, and what prompted you to start Christa-Taylor.com?

CT: Christa-Taylor.com has been operating since January 15, 2007. We first began designing and selling swimwear because of the impossibility of finding something modest. From there, we launched the website and now here we are today.

MJ: What do you strive to achieve with your business?

CT: As a company we endeavor to provide quality, affordable and beautiful modest clothing for women to the glory of God.

MJ: What is the mission statement of your site?

CT: We unashamedly desire to change the world of fashion. We want to convert you to an Empowered Traditionalist. An Empowered Traditionalist challenges the notion that to be modest you must compromise beauty and attractiveness.

Our customer service team is always working hard to make your experience with Christa Taylor the best. You are the final judge of service, so we listen and are always striving to improve our site, services and guarantees.

MJ: Why is your site different from others and what does it offer for ladies?

CT: We believe that modesty apparel should be beautiful and affordable without sacrificing quality. Our site is unique in that is offers a whole line of apparel, including modest swimwear, featuring exclusive Christa-Taylor pieces, and items from other designers. This provides you with the best selection and cost efficiency.

MJ: Why did you choose to support Cambodia? Cambodia is close to my heart and so I was pleased to find that 5% of sales go to missions there.

CT: As Christian entrepreneurs, supporting missions has always been one of our passions. We want to be “kingdom businesses”, where the money goes to serving God’s purposes.

Our family has had long ties with Warm Blankets, our partnering organization in Cambodian. Both of us are passionate about planting churches and meeting the needs of orphans and widows. Over half of my family has been to Cambodia multiple times and have seen first-hand the tangible results of giving. It’s addictive!

MJ: Do you design the entire line of products? If not, do you have a team and how many are involved all together?

CT: Our goal is to eventually proffer an entire line of C-T products, but as we work towards that goal we also sell other designers who match our criteria. The design team incorporates 2-3 of our staff.

MJ: On the site I noticed you also had a blog, what can ladies find on there?

CT: The C-T blog is for modest fashion tips, what’s the latest trends, colors, creative style ideas etc. It’s a resource so you don’t have to wade through the garbage on other fashion blogs.

MJ: Do you have a personal blog? What is the main subject you post about there?

CT: Empowered Traditionalist.com is my personal writing outlet. The main subjects I pursue are Femininity, Modesty, Inner Beauty, Homemaking and Modest Fashion Trends.

MJ: You recently started the Modesty Carnival – When is it posted (weekly, monthly, etc) and how can ladies get involved with that?

CT: To be honest, I was fairly new to the Modesty Carnival idea and didn’t know it was an ongoing process. Hence, I have to reconsider how to include it as a regular weekly feature.

MJ: Now that it’s fall can you give a few tips on clothes or perhaps natural beauty tips?

CT:Five Fashion tips for the Classically Beautiful woman:

1. Clothing may make the man, but accessories definitely make the woman. A few simple accessories can make you look very stylish while being very simple. 1) A good pair of silver hoops (consider a medium size for day and a sparkling pair for night) 2) a neck scarf 3) a great bag in your favorite color 4) a long beaded necklace in a neutral color. These simple accessories can make you look and feel more “put together” instantly.

2. Match your shoes and handbag. You don’t have to be rigidly matching, but having a similar theme or color in your shoe and bag will connect your outfit.

3. Keep your hair updated. Many gals make the mistake of wearing their hair in the same style for 5 years or more. Go ahead, grab a picture you like and take it to your hairdresser. Add bangs, or grow them out, lengthen or shorten your hair. Layer it, part it, curl it – maybe perm it?

4. Find classic fitting pieces that emphasize your waist, a great fitting blazer or short sleeve cropped jacket, corduroy jacket etc. Go just a bit outside your comfort zone and you’ll probably be perfect.

5. Know your body type. Learn how to flatter your shape, whatever it may be. Style and success in shopping begin with knowing what works for you and passing over what doesn’t.

I am really impressed with the Christ Taylor site and design-line. Very nice and of good quality. Perhaps I’m not the trendy-type, but there is something there for every girl longing to be feminine and modesty.

Now, you’re wanting to know what the goody is, yes?? You’ve gone and looked at C-T and now you’re wanting to put some of the items on your wish-list…. well, how about a chance to get something early with a $25 give credit for the C-T store?

You can enter a chance to win the $25 GC by leaving a comment, and if you want to enter again tell your friends and when they come to enter make sure they say who directed them here because if they say YOU did then you get yet ANOTHER entry! So if you tell 15 friends and they all say “Sarah told me” then you get 15 more entries. You can twitter, facebook, stumble, etc to let your friends know!

Oh yeah don’t forget to put the icon on your sidebar. My dear friend, Anna, is the model for this icon. She’s so adorable and I love her outfit!

<a href="http://aponderingheart.com/blog/?p=1128"><img src="http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn63/sillydreamer91/graphics/ctgiveaway.png" alt="" /></a>

Have fun! The giveaway will end on November… hmm… not sure maybe the 24th? Guess you had better enter!

Blessings!
