Amein my dear! You know, I used to want black curly hair instead of my (then) blond straight hair… (I’m now a light brunette.) Praise the Lord that I have come through that – I still don’t *love* my hair but I am now content with what the Lord has seen fit to bestow upon me, for which I give HIM the glory!

You can try this: http://www.wikihow.com/Blow-Dry-Hair-With-Natural-Waves. When I was looking to define my waves and tried this it worked but not the way I wanted to on my hair. It’s great if you want that “beachy wave” look in straight hair though. If you want ringlets buy some small foam rollers and use them while you hair is damp and then leave it on overnight. (If your hair is naturally layered, make sure you do a top and bottom row of rollers.) http://www.wikihow.com/Curl-Hair-With-Foam-Rollers <—– that says to blow dry but that usually always makes the hair frizzy so I'd say just leave the rollers in overnight. Those 2 are my TNT ways to getting loose wavy curls or tight ringlets.

Hello Miss Jocelyn!
Before I start I should let you know that this comment may get quite lengthy, so beware. :)
Anyway, thank you for bringing up this topic…I do appreciate you blogging about important topics…you give different views/approaches to things that I’ve never thought of, even though I may not agree with everything.
I have very straight hair – and although sometimes, I admit, I wish it was curly – and I have to remember to be content with how God made me. It’s a whole learning process. :) I’ve always loved having long hair, but right after I turned 12, I cut off 10 or so inches to give to Locks of Love. It was above my shoulders, and although my grandma (who is not a Christian) loved it, I was determined to grow it back. I’m almost 15 now, and my hair is finally almost back to the length it was before I cut it. My grandma is constently asking if I’m going to cut it again, and every time I say (as politely as I can), “No, I prefer having it long.” And besides, there’s a lot you can do with long hair instead of short! I enjoy trying different hairstyles, although I have to be careful not to be vain. :)
Are you thinking of letting your perm grow out? I’m sure you will look beautiful either way, and besides, it’s the heart that matters most to God.

P.S. Do you (or any others reading my comment!) have any tips for straight-haired girls on a quick, easy way to curl your hair? I’ve tried various ways, but none really work, and for me, using a curling iron takes too long. Do you have a tried and true method for getting curls? Thanks for your help! :)

I have had straight hair almost all my life. The times it was permed were terrible; setting, combing, setting, sleeping (or trying to) on rollers or pincurls! I know it's different today, a little, but I like my straight hair, even though it is now gray instead of brown. I wear it long, and I like the way it looks. We all need to spend more time on the inner man and not neglect the outer man but if we straighten the inner man I believe the outer man takes care of itself. Besides if we are “loving the Lord our God with ALL our mind, body and strength, that does not leave too much left over for anything else. :)

I think you’d look great with straight hair! I straightened my big wavy hair for a few years but finally stopped because of the effort and found out that I like my hair just the way it is, even if it does look kind of poofy. It was very freeing not to worry about it anymore.

Yes, we are always wanting something on the other side. I used to tell myself if I had curly hair I’d want straight (not sure I believe it) but we do have a discontent attitude a lot of times and its something we all need to overcome!

I’m sure you’ll look great with straight hair! I have the opposite problem – my hair is very thick and ‘wild’, kind of in between wavy and straight and very annoying! However I have decided to embrace my hair the way Yahweh made it – I think it looks kind of Pre-Raphaelite in a way, which is always good. Abandoning vanity in itself is very freeing I find – knowing that an inner beauty is what my Heavenly Father desires has been wonderful for me.

Oh, and sorry for saying Yeshua rather than Yahushua in the Bosom Friends piece – hope it didn’t take too long to edit!

I think your hair would look nice either way. Amanda’s straight hair is beautiful. I think we always want something we don’t have! I had wild naturally curly hair as a teenager in the 80s and was continually trying to straighten it. LOL My husband and I met through writing via email. I have always struggled with my weight and am not outwardly attractive. I know that as a young man his goal was not to marry someone who looked like me. However, God changed his life and a few years later he began writing with me. He saw something different than the women he knew in the world and fell in love. We loved each other long before we ever met in person. We married late in life (32 & 35) but we have been so blessed by God to have three beautiful children and a continually growing relationship with each other. In a few more weeks we will be celebrating our 11th anniversary! Don’t grow weary in waiting and serving. God knows exactly who will be the right one to receive the treasure of who you are!!!
